No head is bad head. You can NEVER have enough head (on beer).
Beer is all about aroma, and by pouring beer with head, you release more of the “volatiles” that gives beer aroma and flavour. To REALLY enjoy a beer properly (assuming you have proper beer, not some ‘orrible Miller’s Coors or Bud), pour the beer out of the bottle a little at a time, so that you always have a bit of head on your beer, and as such you get premium beer enjoyment. The more head, the better.
Its true, the beer with head may make you feel bloated and fuller quicker – but now, what is your point? To enjoy a beer or get drunk? If you want to get drunk – quaff your Black Label straight out of the bottle.
If you want to enjoy a weel-made beer, a little bit of beer poured from height in a goblet-style glass to form good head is the best way to enjoy beer.

About half an inch should be good. But I haven't had a beer in years. Enjoy.

I say more than an inch and a half of head is to much, on a nice frosty mug of ale.

If it's guiness then an inch of head is okay. Otherwise only half an inch.
