I read somewhere that William Petersen is taking some time off to perform in a play on Broadway.

I am so glad you asked this, I was just about to post the same question. I have researched this as best I could and could not find the right answer. CSI (Vegas) is by far the best of the bunch, NY and Miami are very different shows I think. Grissom certainly makes the show and CSI would take a strong hit if we lost him. I think there are a lot of other strong characters though. Catherine, Nick, Warrick, Sara and even Jim Brass are enough to carry the show. I watch CSI every chance I get! I have heard that William Petersen (Grissom) wants to go back to theater, but I wasn't sure when his contract with CSI was up. I think it will be hard to see him go, and I wish he would stay, but I certainly will keep watching CSI for as long as they run it and re-run it as well!!

A friend told me about this last week. Apparently TV Guide had an article about it. I guess he wants to do some plays and that he's just getting bored with being Grissom.
It sounds to me like he's leaving "for good"... although I personally can't imagine the show without him! While I think it will survive because of the other characters... it will certainly be different. I really hope they do it in a way that allows him to come back... which from the previews it looks like they do. If they killed him off or something... that would suck... but it looks like he's just "moving on", so he COULD be back later. HOPEFULLY!

No I don't think so. I think he has about 3 years left on his contract and he can't legally leave. I know he had given an interview with Entertainment weekly where he stated he was very upset with all of the CSI spinoffs, and as soon as he could legally leave he would.
Hopefully he will change his mind, He makes the show.
I think the ads are kind of a teaser and either he won't be back until next season, or he'll be back before the end of Thursdays show!!

Only a vacation for about 2 episodes. He is doing some play out east. His contract is up next year and there has been allot of talk of him leaving to do more plays in his hometown of Chicago. This would be a major mistake on his part.

I think making him leave for good would be a show killer. Maybe they're just setting us up like, In the beginning of the show he says, I'm leaving. But at the end he goes, never mind I'm coming back.

Could be a power play for a new contract.
Or he may be tired of working the poorest lit lab in the world.

Maybe he is sick and doesn't want to make us sad by letting us know.
