I watched the movie for the first book.
I used to live out a few scenarios in my mind. There was the "accept the mark and you'll be cloned instantaneously and replaced" where I thought everyone was being replaced by demon-possesed clones little by little. Then there was the idea of a chip that controls the mind being placed in people's heads with a mark to denote that the chip is within them.
Right now, I think it's a chip that controls a persons' behavior that will arise towards the end of the world.
