There's never a Monday night game following the last weekend of the season. It would not be fair to a team who is in the playoffs to have to have to play on short rest against a team who played on Sunday and got more time to prepare.

All team played their 17th games today (12/31/2006), the max the NFL can allow for each team per season. Today is one of the biggest holiday of the year, New Years Day, the first day of 2007. The main College Football games, excluding the title games, are played on New Years, headline by the Rose Bowl. The playoffs is on a week-by-week basis, leading to the Super Bowl in Florida. After the playoffs are finish, the two remaining team needs the maximum two weeks to rest for the Super Bowl, which is why the seaso ends today w/ no MNF.
