this, to my experience has been true. Being in the military I've been around from europe to middle eastern muslim countries and I'm always welcomed. It may be that to some American=$ but by far and large I think MOST ppl can distinguish individuals from their government or policy. What do you think?

Being in the military, your experience is probably not like those had by tourists and business people. My own experience is limited but I have been told that most non-US citizens view us as the characters seen on American TV: wealthy, shallow, without morals and stingy.
Yet most of these people are friendly and anxious to get to know an American. It doesn't take long for them to discover that we are all essentially alike, but the anger aimed our country usually persists because it seems that their suffering is often a direct result of US policy. Can't blame them for that.

Certainly, I have had no problem with any US citizen I have ever met, but I do have with the impression the US culture/administration gives that it is so sure "The American Way" is right and will be greatfully accepted by all to whom it is offered.
For example, Of course the Shia in Iraq welcomed the US and allied forces, but how could the administration believe the welcome would last when an Muslim nation went on being occupied by an even nominally Christian force. Blind Freddy could have predicted that would be a disaster.
I dislike the largely unplanned and instinctive US "cultural imperialism" and, for example, actively resist in Australia the adoption of US spelling conventions, including those included in our own Macquarie Dictionary. [The MD is a Sydney based publication and most non-Sydneysiders see Sydney as a branch of LA!]
The US has many great aspects, but it has great flaws too, and a certain institutionalised arrogance that denies that and gets up others noses!
I don't think any thinking person hates "Americans" per se. The culture that we see from outside may contain elements we at least dislike.

Youv answered yourself you said you where leader of the world because basically you have more money.Well laa de da in some countries having a load of money wont make people bend on one knee and when you spend money on lording it over poorer countries and generally making everyone hate you. As for the world not functioning withour america how self important are you? Europe is the worlds biggest market and asia exports huge amounts of goods. The world would struggle for a while but we would get by eventually. You dont have the highest quality of life you actually have one of the lowest a developed nation and as for the best stores and brands companies like coca cola and burger king cause massive bad will towards usa from south america and asia where they get all there cheap expendable labour and all this sort of stuff gets noticed in europe and australaisia.

What!! that is the same thing. If there were no American, there would not be America. They are one and the same. If they hate America, that means they hate the people who live in America as well. You can't have one without the other. that is what I think. It is only an excuse for those who wants to show you a good face while at the same time want to hate America.

I too have been in many countries (over 30, stationed in 3) and I personally believe this 'hatred' is actually jealousy of the freedoms and opportunities we have and the material things that are available to us. In some of the countries I visited, I felt a bit leary until I got to know some of the locals. When I tried to speak some of their language, this opened a whole new avenue of welcome and trust (except for France where I could not speak PERFECT French..but was understood in Tunisia and Mauritius... and those that I came in contact with would not try to understand, and once had to speak Italian before they would respond to me).

Just today I saw a European online edition newspaper article that reported that an American woman was refused medical treatment in Sweden - to the shock and chagrin of his nurses and the clinic management - by a doctor she had gone to see. He was a Palestinian Arab. He said he would not treat her, did not want to hear English spoken, and he "doesn't deal with that kind of person."
When they hate "America" they devolve into hating Americans, and there are a lot of people who look down on, or actively hate, Americans.

I totally agree cz people do hate the government but don't hate Thai Americans cz u can't blame thousands just cz one person

you are sooooo wrong... when it comes to hating America,American and whi** trashes, we africans, who live in America should be listed on the first place.. unlike other people in other countries, we came here to this f** country and realized that AMERICAN IS NOT= $,,, but we can't denie that American= "" being mean to others",,,,,,,,,,, ,,,,,,,,
