Be gentle and calm. He can sense it if you are feeling panic.

Some ideas to make it fun!

Let him watch you put visine in someone else's eyes....let him put some in yours. Then try his.

Play a nose tickle game. Let him put visine on your nose above your inner eye. It will roll down into your eye. Giggle. Then, ut the drops on the side of his nose...just above the inner corner of his eye. It will roll down and into his eye...ask him if it tickles, while you tickle his neck or belly.

You could also try that when he falls asleep, and nudge him, so he will flutter his eyes open.

When my eyes were dialated they put the drops in my eyes by gently pulling out the lower lid slightly and dripping it in that opening. No matter how much you squeeze, it is already in there.

You could also try calling the pediatric floor of your local hospital and ask a nurse for her suggestions if these don't work.

Good Luck! Hope he is feeling better soon.

Peace be with you!

Dont try to restrain him.... he probably hates that more than the eye drops. Try having him lie down and close his eyes. Sing a silly song or something to keep him distracted. Place the eye drop in the inner corner of his eye while it is still closed. When he opens his eyes the majority of the drop will go in.

This way he doesnt have to see the bottle coming near his eye and wont have the apprehension of worrying if it will hurt. It will be over before he even knows it started.

Have him lay his head in your lap turned sideways. Tell him to look down toward the floor, and then gently lay the tip of the eye dropper next to the corner of his eye. Tell him the liquid will roll through just like a tear.

The problem you are running into is the natural reflex for the eye to close/blink at anything coming directly at it. It might be easier to do it as a wash. I hope this helps.

can u get tablets that do the same?

im a complete wimp when it comes to eye drops, i find its easiest to put them in in the corner of the eye, opposite to the tear duck near your temple u know? while looking away though

u can also pull the eyelid down abit at the bottom, drop the drop n, then he can blink them in

its really tough though i know

Don't put the drops straight in--it's creepy to watch the dropper coming right at you and it's had not to struggle and blink. I always tilt my head to the side (or lie your son on his side) and drip them onto the outer edge of my eye.

When I use eye drops, I will pull down the bottom lid, and applya couple drops in the little pocket it produces.

have you tried bribery? ice cream... candy... a favorite game?

if that doesn't work then one person needs to restrain him while the other gives the drops.

or you could sneak it in while he is sleeping.... that would be a good thing to try... perhaps to get the morning dose in... but for the night dose.... that might be a bad idea if it wakes him up again...

wait til he's asleep. Pull down on his cheek gently to make a cup out of his bottom lid. put in drops. If he does wake up it'll be to late to make a fuss, they're already in.
