How much is a 1986 United Kingdom Gold Proof Set worth? The case for the set is actually in it's original seal with a visible certificate saying that it was sealed at the Royal Mint. How about a 1987 set?

The 3 coin KM# PS50 had a mintage of 12,500 and at the time of my book 2001 it had a value of 600.00, which was $75.00 less than what it cost to buy it from the Royal mint. The 1987 set is the same, it's reference number is KM# PS53. As with most items like these sets, they are usually worth the value of the metals in them. Even though 12,500 doesn't sound like many, it actually is, for few people can afford the product and there is not a very strong collector base, even in the UK. If you live in the UK try a local dealer, for it would be worth more there. I usually don't have much to do with modern coins so my books on them are a few years old. Since these books cost around $50.00 each, it is a matter of economics. My books from 1600-1900 are usually updated often.
