Hi, I'm a male in my mid-twenties. I don't have many friends, but I do have many acquaintences from school. I would like to make some of them my friends. I am thinking of asking some of them if they would like to hang out.

But I'm hesistant to because I'm not good at socializing. I'm a good listener, but not that good at keeping up a conversation. I find that after a while, we have talked about everything that we can and then there's nothing to talk about. It gets kind of awkward then to force conversation. This is one of the reasons why I've avoided hanging out with friends.

Can anyone give me suggestions on what kinds of things I can speak about with my friends? I don't want to talk about politics, world affairs, or religion. I want things to stay light and fun. But I don't know how I can keep that up for an hour or more. Plus, I'm afraid that on subsequent meetings we won't have anything to talk about and our conversation will become circular. Thanks for the help.

Talk about stuff like fave stuff. i keep up conversations because i find something that we BOTH like, then talk about it. Eventually, we wonder off into some other subject.

I can never figure out why though...

1st relax, a good listener is a good friend. Maybe you can find a chatter box for a friend then you wont have to talk so much. I have a couple of those friends.
2nd don't put so much pressure on your self, if you stress out then people you talk to will notice you are nervous that is not a fun person to talk to.
3rd To maintain a long conversation you have to find a common ground, it makes it easy to communicate for a long time when both people are interested

You speak a little too eloquent for a 20 yo male.
Sports.... From the good grammar and sentence structure, I'm sure you not big into sports. 90% of what we men talk about is sports or sport related. I've had to make myself familiar with sports and teams, when I like playing, but hate watching.
I wasn't really raised with a father figure which hobbled me when it comes to sports.
You can play the ignorance of sports to your advantage. Let one of them know you would like to know more about sports and get him to tell you more about it.
Good luck. I know your pain.

to me, that is what friends are... people you can hang out with and be confortable with... even when there isn't much to say. People like to hang out with people they feel comfortable with, and nobody likes or needs to be in a conversation constantly... if you feel awkward, suggest you all go do something... or go to the gym and ask if anyone is up for it... above all, relax about it.

i think of i might desire to take into attention each and every answer you get from this because of the fact i'm in an identical rut now :( sucks *** does not it! it is so confusing making attempt with somebody who won't make any attempt back! then you definately p.c. to offer up and a few thing reminds you of them and you're suitable back to the place you started! in step with threat they are merely no longer that into us!? because of the fact from what my pal instructed me, if a guy certainly need's you, he will bypass that extra suitable mile to make useful the verbal replace is persevering with, and propose assembly for all time. in step with threat we actually do might desire to recover from it :/ x

Ask questions about them, and each answer should prompt a new question or comment form you. Don't talk about yourself unless asked. Generally people like to talk about themselves, and they especially like someone who is interested in them. Good luck!

Keep asking questions about things you're interested in.
