Yes I am so sick of people who can't comprehend the songs or just think the music sound too "gangter" for them as they say. They think rap is the reason for all crimes, rapes, and degrading of women. Guess they all think we should listen to country and pop music, then we will all be better people........yea right

I am trying "oh so hard" not to sound like I am dissing you. And I'm not. But, from an intelligent point of view, I cant see how anyone can intelligently defend rap as a viable music form.
Don't get me wrong. It takes talent to make words words rhyme in some reasonable form of flowing thought. I give the rappers credit where its due.., but its not what I call music.
I come from the old school where "rapping" was having a one on one talk, or even a group talk / discussion, and I just cant see another generation robbing our terminology (a non racist issue because blacks in the 70s loved to rap with the best of us black challenged dudes).
Yes, rapping was race neutral. Now days is this new form, so? Okay, I guess you have me there - but I'm trying my best to be difficult without being insultive. So give me a break, nod your head as if impressed and we can get past all this angst.
Whew! That was rough sailing. Glad we made it to the coast. As my generation would say.., "Keep on truckin" -or- "Groove on brother man." but for Arthur Godfrey's sake, leave the rap crooning alone! ;-)
On a more serious note:
I suppose I could no more get you to like some of my music genre tastes than I could with rap. Filty language, disrespect for women, drug dealin and murder (and other violence) do not have any artistic place in my appreciation for music.
I am a firm believer that - when one feeds on violence, he or she breeds violence. Right or wrong, that's my take on the whole issue. This also applies to Goths who usually end up depressed, cutting themselves and so on. They are infuenced by what they surround themselves with. If you surround yourself with negativity and darkness - it consumes you at some point.
All due respect intended,

I'm tired of defending it because nobody listens to the good rappers, like Mos Def, Common, Talib Kweli, AZ, and Nas, and their whole opinion on rap is what they hear on the radio, D4L, Lil Jon, Usher, Mike Jones. SO they have a good reason to diss rap accourding to what they listen to. But if they listened to the real hip hop instead of that commercial crap. Then they would know what it relly is and they would be able to have a just opinion of it. So I am tired of defending it because what i defend isn't even what they think im trying to defend (D4L, Mike Jones, Mainstream) Im trying to defend the real hip hop.

If you arent used to the Hip Hop culture of course it wont make sense but I will give people props for asking someone instead of thinking of some ridiculous theory on what the person meant

So don't defend it. You won't change the mind of anyone, so enjoy it without them. Their disliking it won't change your liking it. It's America. You can listen to Rap, R&B, Country, Rock N Roll, Pop, Polka, Western, Jazz, Classical, Opera, Gospel, or anything that you want to.
Just don't leave it bumpin when you drive through a neighborhood or in your house so others can hear it. It doesn't impress anyone and just makes your case that much harder to win.

I don't defend it at all anymore. I figure it doesn't matter what people think of my taste in music. If they don't like what I am listening to they can walk away.
