there might be something very small under the blades, try this: Take a wooden spoon ( not your fingers) and see if you can rotate the blades easily. Look at if there is anything at all in there that is very small. I had this problem only to look in there and see a little rubber "foot" about the size of a quarter of a pea which apparently fell off of something I washed. If there is nothing, hit the reset button.

if u don't have a reset button, check to c if there is a small hole in the bottom of the disposal near where the core is attached. if so, take an allen wrench of the right size, stick it in the hole and turn it one time around. I do it to my disposal and it works well when it makes grinding noise. the noise should stop when u urn it back on. Hope this helps.

when you turn it on does it spin? If it spins, then there is probably something small in the blades. Unplug the unit and if possible search the inside. Usually you can remove the rubber sleeve that covers the opening that makes it easier to inspect it. Use the wooden spoon to rotate it. If the unit doesn't spin the motor might be bad. It's actually cheaper to replace it versus fixing it.

shoot i use my fingers all the time.. could be something down in it.. could be a broke blade.. i take a screwdriver and hold up on the rubber.. then take a flashlight and shine around down in there. sometimes you will find the object down in one of the holes at the side bottom. working on new homes i would find small nails and the insulation off of wires when they strip the ends.. soft stuff i use a knife to poke it. other stuff i use needle nose pliers to pinch it. the flashlight really helps. the blades down in there should rotate if you try turning them with the screwdriver.. sometimes stuff gets under them.

Let it run, with the water on, for about 5 minutes. If the sound isn't gone by that time, buy a new one or scrape your plates into the trash before washing them and don't use the old, broken one.

Does it have a red reset button - under the sink -- if so press and hold that and try to reset - good luck
