Yes, I know others are wondering, now I am expressing it too. It seems that we always have a reason to celebrate, and why not pour a glass of wine or other simliar intoxicating drink to celebrate the celebrating? Why? I propose we petition for a new holiday "Sober Day" where everyone realizes that they too can not drink and still be merry......Its New Year's Eve, 80% of America is drinking? Yes or no? Why?

P.S. just so you know, I really don't hang out with people who drink, I have seen lots of it in the past, never really enjoyed the whole scene...so is there some magic that I missed when I chose to have a sober holiday?

After getting many interesting responses, I realized I failed to mention one very important thing, if you are drinking or a "drinker" Please don't be rude, just answer why instead ok? I don't want to be bothered with the people who feel I'm stupid because I ask a question. There are no stupid questions just stupid people who don't have open minds. I not once called anyone who chose to drink stupid, I just asked why they feel its a need thats all.

I don't get it either, really. Why would you poison yourself on a holiday? It makes no sense. People see it as a drink that makes them feel good, so they think it's a source of joy during a celebration, but that negates the entire point of the holiday being celebrated. I agree completely. Sober Day is a great idea. *grins* and about 80% of America, well, i think more than that, if you're only counting the legal and religiously unobligated ones....

I think it is because that is the only way some people think they can have fun. I have not drank for 9 years and have been having lots of fun so I know it can be done. I agree on the sober holiday. I will be home not drinking this year also.

All through the Christmas holidays, everyone drinks like fish...I can't figure it out, either....it's supposedly the most wonderful time of the year, but everyone has to be wasted to get through it...especially the family get togethers!!

I agree with you totally. People know drinking is stupid, therefore when there is a holiday it provides the PERFECT reason to get drunk. Weak minded people will find ways to justify supporting their habit. Tonight people will be drunk, have wrecks, go to jail, people will be killed because of alcohol..... sad.

At least we are 2 people who have some damn sense!

I haven't had a drink in 25 yrs.
No one in my family drinks...or smokes...or uses drugs.

Oh yeah, I'm atheist...so it obviously is not some religious reasoning

Because it's their choice to.

Why do people have to make stupid posts about people who decide to have a drink?
