You and the bucket act as one body. Due to the Newtonian laws. When you apply a force on the bucket the bucket applies the same force to you albeit to the opposite direction. But since you and the bucket act as the same body you are practically applying a set of two opposing forces which are canceling each other out.
Simpler:
The strength you apply with your hands on the bucket is also applied from your feet to the bucket.

probably because you have no fulcrum upon which to exert your 13 stone of muscle power.
if you get in a bucket and use a pulley you could do it, though. the pulley acts as a fulcrum.
i flunked physics, by the way, so don't pay me any mind.

There are different muscles used for bench pressing and for lifting. So unless you can devise a pulley system that allows you to use your bench pressing muscles to pull you up then you're just gonna be stuck to the ground sweetheart...
