I was born here and raised by French parents. I learn the language and speak it everyday. I also speak Spanish fluently. I am passionate of science and I want to be a doctor. If I take French and Spanish Literature at UCLA would it look good as well with chemistry, calculus, and english. I know nowadays its so competitive to get into med school. So I think they might like it. what do you think?

Many of the admissions people I talked to when I was applying to med school told me that they would rather see people that displayed interests in subjects other than the sciences so yes, by all means take foreign language classes! In 4 years of medical school you will not have much time to pursue other interests so if you have a chance to do so in your undergrad work it is highly recommended! I was told by one admissions counselor that my job working as a teacher was actually preferred over someone that only worked in a hospital during their undergrad career. Doctors need a strong base of math and science but there are other aspects outside of those fields that are just as important. Since there are so many native Spanish speakers immigrating to the US, a good background in Spanish is a huge plus which allows for better doctor-patient communication. You'll still need to do well in your pre-med classes, but having a broad range of classes is actually preferred! Good luck!

They would really rather see more science based classes. The MCAT is science and math based. Although it may help you personally later on when trying to find a job. In some communities it helps to speak more than one language.

Med schools don't care too much what your major is as long as you do really well in chemistry, math and biology - especially organic chemistry and biochemistry. And if you score well on the MCATs. Language skills would be good, but they won't make up for a C in organic.

It would be an asset, however if you know Spanish, and take a major in Spanish, you'll be seen as one-dimensional. It'll backfire. Make sure you're actually interested in your major, and keep it varied. But yes, Spanish and French would help.

you're just asking about taking 2 classes? yea! go for it! then during interviews you can talk about why you know those languages and wanted to take the classes. They really like talking about foreign stuff when you are not from the US. It makes you look more interesting.

Yes, it's a definite plus. Still, you need to do well on all those science/math courses, though (they do count for more).
