I wasn't able to breastfeed either of my daughters. I couldn't produce milk. I also had toxemia with my first child and the got pregnant with her sister when she was 2 months old. That being said, It's taking me quite a while to lose all my weight. My question is this; When I go to have another child, and I'm able to breastfeed, don't get pregnant again right away, and don't have a complication where I gain 100 pounds, is there a chance I could lose more weight than I would gain during the pregnancy? I mean, If I gained 25 pounds during my pregnancy, is there a chance I could lose say 40 pounds if I breastfeed? I'm just curious. I'm not pregnant and don't plan on having another child for a couple more years,

You will burn about 500 extra calories by breastfeeding, but one of the key points of breastfeeding is healthy eating. If you simply choose healthy foods as your main diet, you'll lose weight even if you don't add breastfeeding on top of it. Of course, breastfeeding is the most nutritious for your child, so give it a go and see if it's something you can keep up with! You could also hit some plateaus while you're losing weight, so if you hit a wall, don't get too discouraged. If you burn more calories than you consume you will lose weight, bottom line.

I gained 70lbs with my first child, 50 with my second, and 60 with my third (who is three months old). I breastfed my first two, and I am currently breastfeeding my third. After the initial weight loss (about 25lbs for each), I lose about a pound a week. Sometimes I lose two. I am not "dieting," but I am careful about what I eat. After I finish breastfeeding, I will still have to really diet to finish losing the weight. With my other two, it took about a year and a half to feel "normal" again. Good luck!

I am breastfeeding, and I now weigh almost 8 pounds less then I did when I got married 6 years ago. It burns 500 calories a day. I eat like a horse, and I'm skinny! I heart breastfeeding. It's great for the kids, and great for me!!

It helps you lose it but that is over about a yr or so i would try to be health about it and focuse on eating the right things so that you dont have to worry about losing so much. I loved the subs at walmart they where hugh but i only gained about 20 pds and lost all of it 3 months after my last one. eat other things to but those really got me through the last 3 months

I breastfed all 3 of my girls. Though it did make my tummy go down faster, the scales stayed the same. Only when I stopped breastfeeding and was able to watch what I ate and exercise more did I start losing the weight.

Yes. The more you use your homonal system the better it works, truely. Women put off using their homonal system only to find out that it won't work at the later age. I say yes, Breastfeeding is helpful but its better to be in the best shape you can be when you get pregnant.
About calories- eating high nutrient calories like vegetalbes and high quality protein calories will help you loose when you are breast feeding because breastfeeding revs metabolism. avoid junk and eat alot of salmon and vegetarian protein.

You will only be able to lose that much on a strict diet that isn't really safe until the baby is 4 months old.

You burn about 500 calories a day when breastfeeding exclusively. Most people only lose what they gain, if that.
