Yes ofcourse. It is discrimination between sexes, not just based on one's sexuality. A man can marry a woman, but a woman does not have the same right. She can not willingly marry a woman. Same goes for a man marrying a man. So the definition of marriage under todays law discriminates based on ones sex and it does not account for Intersex people either. There should be no need for a separate "same-sex marriage" category, we should change marriage to include any union between two consenting adults. Besides the reason for marriage is not important since straight people could get married for any reason, be it love, publicity or just convenience.

Under the new definition a straight man can also marry a man, he doesn't have to but he will have the exact same right as a gay man to marry a man. So there are no "special" rights being given to any one, just the protection given under marriage is being expanded to more people.

Being a tax paying individual of this country I should either get a tax break from the Government for not recognizing my union or the Government should recognize and protect my union just as much as other "tax paying" straight individuals.

yes, the only problem is.. when gay marriage is finally allowed they will get married left and right just because they can and in a few months to a year the divorce rate will sky rocket and then the people who were against it will be able to say 'i told ya so' and say once again that gays shouldn't be treated equal because theres no promise of family or kids... so on and so forth.

personally I'd rather see a orphaned child go to a loving gay family then a mother and father that are awful parents.

Totally. Marriage is marriage. You love one another so you should have the same benefits as if you were a straight.

marriage is marriage, whether it is to a man, woman, cow, chicken, or dog..... we should just stay out of peoples sex lives.... y does it matter... it's not as if u r the one with that person... people who r against it, r just close-minded, and ignorant... we r all humans, and deserve the same rights.. gay or straight...

My husband and I totally disagree on this issue. He is totally against same sex marriage. I believe that it would cut back on the ammount of same-sex couples...especially women, trying to keep the children from each other. When one of the women in the relationship gives birth they are the "real" parent according to the courts, and even if the other partner is the stay at home parent and takes on most of the responsibilities of caring and raising the child, if the relationship sours they are not allowed to have contact with the child. That is wrong.

Of course, marriage is marriage. I should have the same that my brothers and sisters do. After all, its about the government giving me my rights.

Ugh people need to get a grip on themselves, yes gays should have the same benefits, people don't choose to be gay anymore then they choose to be straight. Self rightous bible beating bigots.

Yes of course, every last one of them. As I understand it Vermont's civil unions don't rectify the situation addressed by Ryan's mom.

Edit: Alright who are the Nazi Fundies giving us all thumbs down?
