Yes. People in countries outside of the US do it all the time. Just drink it slowly and have it with food. After all, you're talking one glass on a holiday, it's not like you're drinking a large quantity or with regularity. But if you are around people who know you are pregnant you are likely to get the stink eye.
And an excerpt from http://www.pregnancy.org/article.php?sid=1200
"If it's important to you on particular occasions, like an anniversary or birthday, you can safely drink one or two glasses of wine while eating, especially at the end of your pregnancy. But under no circumstances does anyone have the right to force you to drink. And nobody should make a pregnant woman feel guilty for drinking moderately."
Happy New Year!

Yes you can have the occasional glass of red wine even while you are pregnant. I am sure that people on here will tell you no and you are selfish, blah blah. But one small glass of wine with food and water is NOT going to do damage. The United States blows everything out of proportion as usual. If that was the case than everyone in Europe would be walking around with FAS and probably us because our parents did not know better. Just make sure you only have one and you have plenty of food in your stomach etc. It is a personal choice and it is ultimately your choice. Good luck.

Alcohol and pregnancy don't mix. That's because no one knows exactly what harmful effects even the smallest amount of alcohol has on a developing baby. All public health officials in the United States recommend that mothers-to-be play it safe by steering clear of alcohol entirely.
Here's a quote I found:
"We don't really know what a safe level of alcohol consumption is for a pregnant woman — and it's probably different for every woman because no one metabolizes alcohol in the same way," says Pam Phipps, research manager of the fetal alcohol and drug unit in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Washington in Seattle. "Since it's impossible to identify a safe dose, we advise abstinence." So do experts at the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Why don't you drink a virgin fruit cocktail instead.

I know how trying those pregnancy hormoes can be and when you crave something... . I personally craved beer whenever I was pregnant but I just couldn't do it. It was funny, because I never craved it any other time, but when I get pregnant, I really want it. Maybe you could try some of that unsweetened grape juice. It tastes just like wine to me and it may just satisfy your craving while doing no harm to your baby. I have heard that it's really bad to drink particularly in the first trimester. Beyond that, yes its bad, but if you only have one glass I don't think it will make or break your pregnancy or the developement of the baby. But do try that unsweetened grape juice and see if that helps. Good Luck!

Yes - the rare glass of wine at a social occasion is fine, but not in the first trimester. But only have 1, sip it slowly, and eat, and be prepared for dirty looks.
(My Dr. even suggested it to me at the end of my pregnancy as a way to relax so contractions can get going)

Go for it.
"The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists recently conducted a large study including 400,000 American women, all of whom had consumed alcohol during pregnancy. Not a single case of fetal alcohol syndrome occurred and no adverse effects on children were found when consumption was under 8.5 drinks per week. 3
A recent review of research studies found that fetal alcohol syndrome only occurs among alcoholics. The evidence is clear that there is no apparent risk to a child when the pregnant woman consumes no more than one drink per day.
A study of pregnancies in eight European countries found that consuming no more than one drink per day did not appear to have any effect on fetal growth. A follow-up of children at 18 months of age found that those from women who drank during pregnancy, even two drinks per day, scored higher in several areas of development."

My doctor told me to sip a glass of wine to calm myself once. wouldn't advise it to others though. If you want to drink something why not have a virgin drink. they taste great. You can do without a drink during your pregnancy for the health of your child, can't you? If not you need to talk to someone about getting help.

Well if you don't mind risking that you'll damage your baby you can.
It doesn't manner what stage of pregnancy you are in, a portion of your child is being developed and any drugs, over the counter and alcohol or medications with alcohol in them, are all going to have an affect on whatever portion of the baby is devoping. Do you want to drink that one drink, then your child comes out and can't see and you have to wonder for hte rest of your life if you'd not taken that one drink, would their eyes have developed normally?
If you drink you are saying to the baby, this one drink is more important to me then doing everything I can to give you the best body that I can help to create. You can drink once the baby comes and YOU ARE NOT NURSING if you need it that much, but for now, love him or her enough to just not drink that drink. Stay away from Cola's as well, Caffiene also can harm a baby, don't take anything or use any drug and caffiene is a drug, that a doctor hasn't told you that you need. You are creating life, give that life the very best chance at being born with a healthy body and mind.

I actually researched this topic for a friend once, and all the reliable sources I could find (including a couple of doctors I went to), said NO amount of alcohol is a good idea while pregnant. not even while eating or drinking non-alcoholic with it. Thats what my findings came up with.
