Don't waste your time calling the news. They will think you are off your rocker. This happens a lot believe it or not. It's gross I know, but Gerber will stand behind it all the way and you will probably get coupons for free products. I wouldn't buy Garden Mashers again though.

sorry to hear that...
but according to the FDA there is always some small amount of bugs/feces/ and other things we don't wanna know...in our food.
But I agree I'm pretty grossed out about that...and I highly doubt the news is gonna wanna cover a story of you finding something...unless you live in a small town and there really isn't much news going on....
But I think you do need to tell Gerber what happened....but I'm sure alot of companies like them get calls all the time of something being in their products...
When I had something gooy in my donut that I purchased at Gelson's....all the company did was send their apologizes had the item tested (and so they claimed that it was just a dried up raisin that got cooked in but I really doubt it....) anyways, the company then sent me coupons for more doughnuts and a letter apologizing and that their quality control never does that...
Anyways, when in college I took an class on bugs...the professor covered that according to the FDA food can contain a small pertencage of mouse feces and bugs because that it virtually impossible to have a plant with no bugs or rodents because of the food....

Gross. Yeah, contact whomever you feel you should contact. But I don't think there's much the news will want to do unless the baby food needs a recall, which the company won't issue for just one bug.
I'm sure he'll be fine as long as he didn't eat the bug. Even if he did eat the bug, he'd probably be fine. Don't panic. Maybe call the doctor, but they probably won't tell you much. Bugs (especially just plant beetles) aren't so terrible or disease-ridden. (The types that are are mosquitos, ticks, and fleas.) It sounds like a ... stinkbug. It was probably some field beetle from the "garden." Ha. I'll check around.

Does the bug look like this? http://home.nyc.rr.com/sausubel/Milkweedbug1cl_WEB.jpg

I'm guessing it's a milkweed bug. They're very common where I'm from (Wisconsin) and not harmful to plants (except milkweed) and not toxic. This type of bug could easily have fallen into the food from anywhere.

Uh oh. It appears that they may in fact be toxic.
"Milkweed bugs ingest the same toxic chemicals from milkweed that monarch butterfly caterpillars use as chemical protection both before and after becoming a butterfly. This probably explains why milkweed bugs also have the bright orange warning coloration."
"Milkweed bugs have few predators because they concentrate in their bodies bad tasting compounds found in the sap of milkweed plants. The bugs use their bright colors to advertise their bad taste. Inexperienced birds that taste their first milkweed bug are unlikely to try to eat another orange and black insect."
Hmm. Call the doctor. In any case, as long as your son didn't eat the bug, whatever of it he may have ingested is probably too little to hurt.

It could've also been a boxelder bug, but I'd think they would be dead because of the cold weather? But call Gerber as soon you they are available. Don't let them get away with that. You are dealing with your baby's health! And to the woman who called you a drama queen, you would do the same when it come's to your childs heath and wellbeing. Do what you have to do. Call them, maybe even email them a pic or two! Good luck!

I learned something while I was working on line at a brownie factory. The FDA allows a certain percentage of foreign objects. It happens. Contact Gerber, they will make it right.

Yes, you need to report it. I remember a few years ago black stuff was found in the Gerber food also. That was on the news.

I personally think only drama queens call the news.
That said, I see nothing wrong with contacting Gerber and if you don't get any results then MAYBE contact the news.
