It could be low oil pressure or it could be spark knock(pinging) from a improperly operating ignition system.Your best bet is to have a TRUSTED MECHANIC check the car out.

If it's a rod knock it's problem not worth fixing as the engine has to be pulled out and taken apart an repaired
just off the top of my head your problem looking at $2,000 - $3,000 the cause could have been lack of oil or a bad oil pump I would check the yellow pages for a repair shop that is AAA approved they should be the most reputable

Well...first...no oil pressure. Second, bad rod. Third, bad piston skirt. Fourth, pre-ignition.....timing is too fast on the ignition. If it's only one knock, I'd say piston skirt. If they are multiple...then I'd say that it's pre-ignition or no oil pressure. Does it knock only when you throttle it in gear with the brake on or when taking off? Or all of the time while idling? Is the oil light on? Maybe the screen is clogged and it needs flushed. Drain oil and fill with deisel and put new filter on. Idle for 3-5 minutes and then drain, add new filter and fresh oil. Good luck.

sounds like rod bearing. if it just started you can just replace bearings which is not recommended without complete engine overhaul but checking for loose rod bearings and replaceing is the cheapest alt. to engine rebuild. i done this to one of my vehicles couple of years ago and still driving it today. the key check and replace as soon as the knock starts. if you wait to long the crank gets damaged and engine has to be rebuilt/replaced. good luck.

a worn out serpentine belt or bad gas might be the problem. If it's really bad, it could be rod bearings
