They make their profits from their insane shipping costs. Most people don't read the fine print of the shipping so they think they are saving money when they are actually spending more money in the long run.

Have you ever heard of the word depreciation? If you are selling a used item on Ebay, more than likely you will not make over the amount that you paid for it unless it is a special or hot item. If I know someone did not pay but $4 for an item, I sure am not going to pay $10 dollars for it. I think that the buyer should also pay for the shipping cost, provided that the seller is not charging a price that is tripled more than what it actually would cost to ship it.

Most of the Ebay sellers buy wholesale. That means they pay much less than the retail price so when they sell they make some profit. If you didn't know, they actually make some good money.

Some people are selling used goods, and are hoping to recoup some of the cost.
Others have business papers of some sort and can buy things below retail and sell them on eBay for a little below retail.
I agree, $.25 is a complete waste of time.

I assume that all people on Ebay are making money. They may purchase from a wholesaler or they may buy at an auction of a store closing. Just because it is the same price at a store does not mean that they are not making money.

Maybe they got it really dirt cheap of as a gift, or maybe they are making DVD's on their computer or something. Sounds like you have competition that is getting their merchandise cheaper than you can. This happens all the time. Welcome to the wonderful world of business.
