I wore the under-the-belly pants the whole time. They were great. They just sat lower the bigger I got. Then after the baby came, they fit right across my saggy ex-baby belly. The gave a little support, but were not uncomfortable.
I didn't gain weight anywhere but in my belly (I worked out until my 8th month) and I was comfortably back in my regular pants by the time I went back to work 8 weeks after giving birth.
I wore a pair of maternity sweat pants (those cute one that sit under the belly) and a regular t-shirt home from the hospital.

The rule of thumb is something from your 6th month of pregnancy.
You want something soft and strechy-no jeans, sweat pants are good.
You lose a good bit of weight giving birth, I had a hard time putting on weight with my 2nd (6 weeks old) I only put on 9 pounds (weighed when I got to hospital) at 24 hours after birth I had lost 13 lbs the baby was 7 lb 15 oz--so I was below my prepregnancy weight in 24 hours!
With my 1st I watched everything I ate very close and kept my weight gain at 25 lb. I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight at his 2 week check up.
Of course I brestfed both-so that helped.
And I just started back to the gym Friday. So we'll see!
But something comfy, soft, cozy, hey, I'd go home in PJs if you want! You're gonna be sore weather you have a vaginal birth or a c-section.
With my 2nd I pushed so hard my stomach was sore for a week.

i wore home a pair of maternity yoga pants and a big tee shirt - not exactly the most stylish outfit but it was okay. i didn't want to wear an obvious maternity outfit since i had already had the baby but i knew my prepregnancy clothes wouldn't fit either. i tried the just got done running errands and need to hit the gym look. :)
definitely do something comfortable and something stretchy since you don't know what condition you'll be in. a couple of options is your best bet.
you'll be shocked at how fast that weight does come off. not the next day but in a week times you'll be so much thinner.
congrats on your new baby and happy new years! SD

You will need comfort before fashion. Definitely bring maternity clothes. You won't want anything tight around your belly. Loose fitting jogging pants and a big shirt would be good. With two of my kids I gained about 40 lbs. but they were a week late. The other three were all early, so I only gained about half of that.

After two months, I was at my pre-pregnancy weight and after 3 months, I weighed even less. The miracles of breastfeeding ;).
However, I still wore maternity pants home. I actually brought a pair maternity blue jeans and a pink velvet jacket with satin bow to wear home. It was my favorite pregnancy outfit and I am wearing it in just about every picture of myself during the last 2 months of my pregnancy (and the first week after ;).

I've personally packed 2 outfits because knowing me, I might be picky about what I wear home... Best advise I've heard out there is that you're going to be the same size you were at about 6 months - so packing anything you wore during that time is a definite plus... Something I really missed the first time around was comfy socks... They are a godsend!
My son was much more forgiving on my figure, after having him it took about a month and I lost (believe it!) a size! I was a size less than when I had gotten pregnant... I was able to bounce back thankfully...
With my daughter, she wanted to leave her mark - during the pregnancy I gained about 60 lbs - when leaving the hospital I had only lost about 10-15 lbs and it took about 9 months to loose the remaining weight...
My fingers are crossed with this baby!!!

well I weighed about 214 when I went in to have my baby - I came home weighing about 188.. I just wore my husband's PJ's and I had to wear his slippers too b/c my feet had swollenen so bad - even my legs swoll so bad that I have stretch marks on my calves... ugly :(
Anyway, congrats and be prepared for everything - read everything you can about a vaginal birth and a c-section.. I never thought I would have had a c-section so I never read anything about it and sure enough after 12+ hours of labor and 3 hours of pushing with a fever I had a c-section.... yay freaking me!! I got to wear those fishnet looking panties the hospital has - they are very comfy though no joke...
My point is be prepared for everything, so bring everything...
And I don't even want to talk about getting back down to pre pregnancy weight...

I wore a maternity sweatsuit home from the hospital. It is elastic and it fit wonderfully. Also, since I have a c-section, it didn't rub on my belly like denim.
My first I put on 35-40 lbs
My second I put on 17 lbs
Both took about 6 weeks to take off.
Good luck and congratulations.

Sweats or the under-the-belly maternity pants fit the best for me. I prefer the sweats, or even pajama pants with the elastic waist. Also make sure you have a good maternity bra since your breasts will be changing in size rapidly and they have good stretch in them. Oversize t-shirts worked best for me while I was nursing, button-downs tend to feel uncomfortable when you shift them over to the breast you're nursing off of.

I came home from the hospital about 5 hours ago.. ha ha.. and I wore some EXTREMELY soft pajama pants and a tank top that matched..
Most of the time women don't want to put on jeans after they've just had a baby. Your uterus hurts pretty bad.
