I was just given a Calgary Flames hockey jersey for christmas, and it is super stiff, the emblems on the shoulders are stiff, and especially the big flaming C on the front, any ideas on how to get the stiffness out of it? Also, will washing help? How do you wash a jersey? :|
Thanks.

If it is an expensive nice jersey it is suppossed to be stiff when it is new. Washing it will soften it , but it will also fray and look old. It's up to you new and stiff or old and soft.

Actually the emblems are supposed to be stiff when new and as someone with a lot of family members who play hockey - if you want to preserve the jersey - don't place in dryer. Only hang it to dry. Cold water wash only as well. If you really want to soften it follow the fabric softener idea but remember, if it's a pro jersey it's pretty expensive, not like those cheapies they give away for different beers, etc. The ones you buy in the store aren't exactly like the ones the players wear that hang loosely. Good luck.

cold water wash, fabric softener, but use double rinse, dry on low heat

or if you don't feel the need to wash it first, put dry jersey in dryer on "no heat" or "fluff" and it should uncrunch, also works with jeans, dryer sheet optional, but it'll make it smell fresher

Wash it with baking soda and fabric softener and put it in the dryer.

just wear it, it 'll loosen up. Don't wash it unless necessary cause it is like anything else washed lots, it will look used and old.
