Oh, I totally agree with "Golden Girls" for an older comedy, but newer one would be "Everybody Loves Raymond". As far as Drama...theres always ER.

I find just about everyone likes John Cleese's old series "Faulty Towers" it appeals to multi-generations in its comedy style.

The Red Skelton show, my mom had this and dearly loved it. Another good one is the Dean Martin show.

Gilmore Girls is definitely "elder" friendly. Also, the Golden Girls and Full House.
