The kind of book that I can't get enough of is books where people are stranded on islands and have to survive. There are a few books that i have already read and enjoyed greatly. (robinson crusoe, the swiss family robinson, castaway).

What i'm asking is if anybody knows of others books in this specific genre. i would appreciate any suggestions that you may have.

Thank you

Lord of the Flies!

I read this book once, and my sister has read it atleast three times. It is about a group of private school boys stranded on an island. Great read with a very detailed and complex storyline. I would check it out!

I forget it's name but there's one book about being stranded in a liferaft at sea. It's a true story about the longest survival at sea and it's really good!

Besides that, though it's not a stranded story but a story of intentional isolation, try "Cry of the Kalihari." (Mark and Delia Owens.) It's about this couple who graduated school and went to the Kalihari Desert with little more than a change of clothes and spent 7 years studying the animals.
Thousands of square miles with no water, no roads and no people !
They would sometimes wake in the morning with lions sleeping beside them!
They had to drive I think 140 miles for food and water.
If you read ONE book this year, this should be it!

P.S. This is a TRUE story but don't let that stop you.

Stowaway by Karen Hesse
It isn't about being stranded on an island but it has the same basic idea. It is about a boy who is a stowaway on the H.M.S Endeavour. The H.M.S made a voyage around the world, it was a long and difficult journey. It has a bit to do with survival like you wanted. I hope this helps.

LIFE OF PI
by Yann Martel
List Price: $8.99
Pages: 420
Format: Paperback
ISBN: 0156030209
Publisher: Harvest Books

About This Book
When sixteen-year-old Pi Patel finds himself stranded in a lifeboat in the middle of the Pacific Ocean with only a menacing 450-pound Bengal tiger for company, he quickly realizes that the only way to survive is to make sure the tiger is more afraid of him than he is of it. Finding strength within himself, he draws upon all of his knowledge and cunning, battling for food and shelter, overcoming storms and disasters, and, in the end, making a peace of sorts with both tiger and ocean.

With over one million copies in print, LIFE OF PI has become a modern classic, combining the best sort of storytelling with a profound exploration of ageless themes: faith and truth, man versus nature, innocence and experience.

I know a great survival book, but it takes place in Alaska, not an island. However, I think it's awesome!! It's called "Julie of the Wolves". Awesome book, really intense
