1) The drain is very curved.
2) There are "unevel surfaces that the "Zip-it (like a snake)" gets clogged on
3) We believe it may be clogged with small gravel from when we last cleaned the fish tank, and probably some hair from before us girls got the hair net
4) There is also the slight issure of the "vent" thing for the overflow; we have tried vinegar and backingsoda to help push the stiff to the larger out drain, but that lets the gasses escape (it is also broken so we can only use a towel to plug it. Any suggestions?

We are avoiding the use of draino since our pipes are very old and is iosalmost certain that chemicals will go through them

The things that you have done cannot be easily undone. Can you remove the trap under the tub. If so, do that and clean it out. There is a good chance that is where the blockage is. If not, it will give you a good place to put the snake it and try again.

You do not have to turn the water off. You are working on the drain, not the supply. Sheesh.

The baking soda and vinegar solution to build pressure should not even have been tried. Especially since you know there are some nasty things in there.

If you really have gravel in there, do NOT even try chemicals. You must remove the gravel mechanically. If you cannot open the trap, you could try a strong shop vac to suck it back out the drain.

Remove the trap. In this case, it is the only solution.

BTW, bleach is not in drain opener. There are several other very strong chemicals, but not bleach see my reference. Plus, what do people think is going to happen to that gravel? It doesn't dissolve. If you put it down further, it is another clog just waiting to happen.

MY MY, you do seem to have a good one. Get a drain plunger for bathtub and drain use only, a good one. Plug the vent thing with a rag and have someone hold it tight. Have the tub at least 3/4 full of water. Plunge the drain like crazy, may take several times and could take up to a half hour. You are trying to get the clog(s) to just move a bit and then the weight of the water will flush it through. I have successfully done this with impossible drain plugs. Good Luck--you can do it. Oh, don't pour gravel down there again please.

try going in from the overflow/lever opening with the snake. you will have to remove the handle and spider assembly. then send the snake down, you'll have less curves and bends to fight this way. the only other thing that i could suggest would be one of those bulbs that you attach to a hose that blocks the opening and you force the clog through with water pressure. that would be best done the same way that i told you to try and snake it, but you will maybe have to put the stopper back in the tub and hold it shut. if this fails, you're gonna need a plumber. good luck, and have a happy new year!!

well if you have the flip up stopper (overflow) unscrew it and pull the whole thing out. stick you snake thing down the overflow tube.. guess alot of these peeps never cleared a tub drain b4. the one is right about plunging.. you want to plug the overflow with a wet rag/towel while plunging. the over flow tube is a strainght shot into the trap.

Call a plumber out to clear it ,
You keep it clean and no more fish tanks in the bathtub.
If there is gravel in it, no amount of Drano will help.
The hair and good yummy stuff backed up behind it has built a wall in there.
Your hand-snake isnt getting thru...the snake a professional plumber has is motorized and much stronger.

You might be able to get some draino and pore some of it down the drain.

buy a specially draining formula, nothing homemade will work, if all else fail its time to call a professional plumber. And never go a take a shower with sand on your body, it will clog it! I bet you already knew that!.
