Click your start, Then click run, type in msconfig, click OK, Click the tab that says STARTUP. You will see a list of programs there with check marks in front of them. Deselect EVERYTHING except your Internet server, connection manager, and your anti virus. You will be asked to restart your computer. Do so, and when you reboot, you will see a screen that says you have made changes to start up. Save the changes and tell them to not notify you again. Some of the programs will re-appear automatically. CTFMON will. It is a part of your system that needs to run and will be there again. Go back to start, Run, msconfig will already be there, but if not, type it in again. Click OK, and startup. View the list again and note if there are other programs that put themselves back on. If they didn't, you should find much more speed. If they did, write down the other programs that put themselves back on and go to http://answersthatwork.com/ and look up the programs that are reinstalling themselves. There they will tell you if the programs are needed, what they are used for, or a virus and how to deal with them. I know my answer was long, but if you want speed back, this is how you get it! Good luck! Kelly

you can upgrade your computer's memory to the max for performance and before you buy, check what your computer's motherboard can support like how much ram needed, does the motherboard support ECC or not, and what pc-xxxx it support like my computer support pc-2700 type ram. A ordinary motherboard have two slots for memory ram but other computers have 4 slots.

go to this site to find what ram is good for you: http://www.crucial.com/

You can also upgrade your processor/cpu for the performance and again, the motherboard compatiblity and the cpu is much harder to install into the computer.

P.S: you also can go to Start>Control Panel>Internet Options and press delete cookies, delete files, and clear history, they dont harm your computer and it speeds up you computer in the internet.

I found this site to be helpful. It helps you to shut down the stuff running in the background that you don't use. Just be careful not to turn off the wrong things. It speeded my computer up a lot.

Get a faster processor and more memory also called ram(random access memory). This can be very expensive or it can be cheap. If it was faster when you first got it then do a full format or re-do everything and burn your file you want onto a disk.
