We saw this on a trip today. It was just a barcode on the window of the passenger. We thought it might be an EZ pass thing, but it was on cars from Maryland, Virginia, New York, etc. We could not figure it out but we saw so many cars with it. Does anyone know what it could be? Thanks

It has nothing to do with the vehicle registration. It is for prepaid tolls, sold to commuters. They are phasing the bar code stickers out, and are replacing them with the EZ Pass transponders!

I believe that the barcode if for pre-payment on out toll roads such as the Baltimore Tunnel and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.
You can pre-paid in advance and when you drive thru the desinated lane, the bar code is read. If you drive thru it without the barcode, you will be photograghed and the State Police will be after you.

It's their registration for the car. To show it's legally tagged and registered for the year. I don't know why they put it there. It is a maryland thing.

its if you live in a gated community or a place where you have to pay toll ( like an island) then you can pay in advance and get like a yearly pass then they scan it when you drive by.
