that is an older machine. i wouldn't put XP on it. it's going to run much better and smoother with either windows 98 or windows 2000.
it meets the system requirements for xp....barely. it's going to run real slow with xp.
the guy above me thinks you got ripped off. I don't know how he can say that without knowing how much you paid for it; if you paid less than $200, you got a decent deal. There is nothing wrong with buying an older laptop. An old laptop running 98 can do just about anything a brand new one with xp can, with the exception of graphically intense games.(your model has a nice video card in it for games, though.) surf the web, get email, run Office, you name it.

First off, have you payed for it yet? What I get out of what you show is that it was only tested with Windows 98. It says nothing about having a Operating System.
Most likely it is a Windows 98 modle and can not be upgraded past 2000 and that is now history as well as the 98 series.
To be very honest and up front, send it back or don't pay for it if you can. File a PayPal or eBay complaint if the seller will not work with you.
Good luck from a eBay seller as well.

Considering that it was from an eBay seller, you are going to have to contact the seller to see if Windows is coming with the machine or not.
If not, then you will have to buy Windows XP. I believe that there are some deals going around that you will be able to get a free upgrade to Vista, which will be coming out early next year. (It is a new version of Windows.)
You could also try out a free Linux distribution, or something like FreeBSD or Unix, but those are pretty advanced Operating Systems, and if you want ease of use, it would be best for you to just get Windows.

It said it was tested with windowns 98 so that might still be on it. If not, you can get windows xp for it and then you will need a connection to hook it up to broadband if you have that or perhaps a pc link for it.
When you get it, take it to a radio shack or a computer store and they will be able to tell you what you need and what it will cost. It sounds like, even if you do have to apend a few dollars you did get a pretty decent deal, depending upon what you paid.

If Windows is already loaded stay with it just uninstall the softwares you dont like but its better if you do and well with this configuration i suggest windows 2000 as the best OS because XP expands and 6 GB of Hard disk for that kind of OS is quite small

Wholesalers on ebay buy from Dell... at a refurbishing plant at a much lower rate and sell it to you at regular price. Your best bet is buy directly from Dell so you know what your getting and the warranty and return capabilities are available. With eBay you do lose in the end, so I suggest not to use it. Besides, you pay for purchase fees (and STAY AWAY from PayPal) where with Dell you do not.

Hi,
You have just posted links to images.
Any ways, isee that it just has 128 mb ram and 6gb hard disk. According to this specification, i would recommend windows 98 Second edition.
Hope that helps
