A spin-off show from Hercules. About a young woman warrior who was banished from her village. Along the way, she picks up a sidekick - another young woman, Gabrielle - to go through all sorts of adventures. The shows were to be situated in ancient Greece.
Both programmes were filmed in New Zealand. Xena is played by the Kiwi actress Lucy Lawless (who dyed her naturally blonde hair dark brown, because Lucy felt that her character was a dark and mystical sort).

Wait, you only just heard about it?! Dear child you've been missing out on the best, toughest and sexiest female heroine of all time!!! But thats okay, you can play catch up. ;-)

Xena is a fictional character created by Robert Tapert, who debuted as a villian on Hercules: The Legendary Journeys in a 3 episode arc played by Lucy Lawless of New Zealand in 1995. By the end of her mini arc, the character converted to good and sought for redemption.

The character was so popular that she got her own show, which outlasted Hercules with 6 full seasons, a run from 1995-2001 - making it the third most seasons for a female lead television show (Buffy: The Vampire Slayer being the second with 7 seasons and Charmed being the first with 8) - continuing from the storyline that of Hercules, and gained a fanbase that more than surpassed Hercules.

X:WP was produced by Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi, who went on to direct the Spider-Man movies and a majority of the cast and crew of Xena from New Zealand (not the American ones) successfully went on to do the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Lucy Lawless was asked by Peter Jackson to audition for the role of Galadriel in "Lord of the Rings", but declined because her pregnancy would stall production. Lucy Lawless currently appears on the remade television series "Battlestar Galactica".

Also a little something I'd like to stress that Xena is NOT a princess. The title "warrior princess" refers to a rank of her skill, she is not royalty. Its not common but some people make this mistake. Another common falsehood is what time in which the show takes place: it is Ancient Greece, not medieval. However, the writers do take liberties from various mythology and history, so I suppose it doesn't even really matter now does it?

It is a tv show about the ancient past set in greece. It is about Xena a princess turned warrior to protect her family and small village. She then forms an army to fight the tyrants and ends up beocoming one herself. She then spends the rest of her life trying to make up for her brutal and rich past.

She has many crossovers with the tv show Hercules played by Kevin Sorbo.

The show has some lesbianesque to it with the relationship of Xena and her friend/sidekick/traveling partner Gabriel.

A historical fantasy set in ancient Greece, the series told the adventures of former Hercules villain Xena (Lucy Lawless), a reformed warlord on a quest to redeem her past sins. Xena was accompanied on her travels by Gabrielle (Renee O'Connor), a young woman who became her best friend and most trusted ally. The series was filmed in New Zealand.
