i tried it twice....first time i was a week before my due date and i just got the runs and a few contractions and hemeroids. second time was on my due date and i went into labor 5 hours after taking it. the contractions got me to almost 5 cm and then labor completely stopped for 2 days...two days of intermitant painful contrax with no progress. my water broke and he was born 5 hours later. the moral of the story is, i think castor oil only works to kick start labor only if your body is READY to go into labor. Good luck

I tried it and here is my story.

It didn't work. The next morning I went into labor, but according to my doctor it had nothing to do with the castor oil.

I had an epidural, and lost all sensation to my bottom half.

The castor oil kicked in and let's just say the nurses were constantly in the room cleaning me up.......

Think it through long and hard. I would try going for a long walk instead.

Anything that causes irritation of the intestines can trigger labour, however spicey food is much tastier.

The other supposed problem with castor oil is that it may act as a laxative to the baby causing him/her to pass merconium into the womb. There isn't a lot of reliable information either way.

it's supposedly said it does. The reason why is it sets off a bowel movement that triggers the cramping effect. It tastes nasty if you decide to taste it. I tried it, It didn't work.

I did it on the 27th.. and it worked.. and I suppose it's safe because I gave birth to a PERFECT baby boy.. I wouldn't try it unless I was full term though.

Nope! My sister tried it, and all it did was make her sick :(
I on the other hand had a little more "me and husband" in the bedroom time and took a lot of walks to speed it up!
