Well, these answers are not really what I was looking for. What I am trying to ask is how can I *be* educated and not how can I *get* educated. What are the fundamentals that one needs to be an educated person. Is it necessary to read Kant or Homer, for example?

It depends on your age, education and whether you have a police record or not. If you are a highschool graduate with no felonies you can join the U.S. Army see the world and save for a college education with Uncle Sam adding to your education each month. You will have a good challenging job after Basic training and advance individual training and a good payday beginning the day you join the service, I liked it so good that I stayed in 27 years and have a very good retirement. You only have to spend 3 years or whatever you enlist for but after training you can use your spare time to use as you see fit and study with the Army education Center toward a college degree if you like or wait till you are out of service to use your education funds. This is just a suggestion that you may want to consider and you can get all the information you need from your Army recruiter. Have a happy new year and many more to come.
