carbide? that would be silicon carbide, SiC, aka carborundum, not corundum. corundum is a crystal of aluminium oxide. their similarity in spelling is not a coincidence. the man who first manufactured SiC thought his new compound was similar to corundum and named it carborundum.
both compounds are extremely hard, exceeded only by diamond.

May be u have misunderstood,, if its carborundum it is Sic,, it is very hard and is made is used in acheson's process, it has its m.p around 3000k. if what u think is corundum, it is Al2O3.
emrald , ruby are derivatives of this, which some impurity such as some of the transition salts at the right amount......

I'm not sure exactly what the question means. The obvious answer (according to wording of the question) is "corundum". However, another, and more common, "jewel quality" name, for corundum is "beryl".
