I know that Fantasia from the same season of American Idol as Jennifer Hudson did. But, she didn't get it because she could not read. Not sure about Jill Scott though.

People believe that she tried out to play Effie. So did Vivian Green, Kerry Washington, and Kelly Price.

never heard of that but, Jill Scott is an amazin singer and i would have luv to see her in the movie. JHud was really good in it though!!!
