Firstly you should make sure that you are in fact an interesting individual by having a wide range of interests. Read widely, etc. Then you will have a lot to converse about. But even better, be more prepared to open up way for her to do most of the talking. Be turned into listening and picking up on the interesting things that she says, that will show her you are genuinely interested in her as a person and not just a piece of meat. Never talk too much about yourself other than to answer her questions. don't show off. Girls hate that. Be a bit mysterious.
At places like parties, most other people and feeling a bit unsure of themselves too and a girl will welcome your attempt to converse. It's a nice idea to open with an interesting question of sorts and ask for her opinion. Browse this site for ideas!
