How can a get over an obsession with a rockstar?
Okay, so yeah I'm only 13 but I am very obsessed with a certain rockstar. (Not saying the name...sorry!) It's one of those types of obsessions where I can't do ANYTHING without think of him. I dream about him, think about him, google him constantly, and I want to buy a lightswitch cover with his band on it! (lol) Please don't burn on this band, because I have loved them for a very long time and I feel as they have made my life a bit clearer, but I the same time I feel like I am secluded from the world because they occupy my mind all of the time. I want out of this obsession without giving up the band that I have loved for 3 years. What are some solutions on how not to bring them up in conversations or buy things with their band name on it? Please help!

First of all you shouldn't panic. It happens to many girls your age. If you don't believe me watch a TRL episode in which they have a guest band or artist that is popular among the female crowd and you'll see tens of 12-year-olds (and sometimes even older, I'm not kidding I've seen seniors) holding signs saying that they love someone in particular in the band, t-shirts with the band's name written accross it and screaming like there's no tomorrow. It has always been like that; I remember that when the Backstreet Boys, NSync and all those boy bands were in style it was even worse and with much more screaming beacuse those bands were made to create that kind of reaction from youn girls. Still, try to focus on other things besides whomever it is you're obsessed about; listen to other music, try to wear, buy and use less items that feature him or the band beacause all that's going to do is remind you of him, do some other activities that distract your mind, go out with your friends or someone else to have some fun or anyhting else that takes your mind off him a little and helps you realize that there is much more out there than just the object of your obsessions. Remember that he is and will always be a fantasy of the man you want, of your ideal man, but there is no such thing, what you have are real guys that are nothing like him as the way you know him because he is like that only on stage and on songs. You may think you can identify with an artist because you think that he is as miserable or as happy as his songs, but they are completely different people in real life. For example, I was once reading and interview of Ville Valo, H.I.M's vocalist, in which he said how wrong it was for people to think that he was miserable just because he sang dark, gothic, sad songs. As I said, don't worry, it will pass and in a few years you will look back at all this and realize that it was not worth it and probably ask yourself how you ended up obsessed with a band that now that you think about it wasn't that geat anyways and with a guy that looked like hell. Believe me it will happen someday; life tends to cause those things in you.

Hope this helps you! The very best of wishes from me to you!

Well, I have the same problem. Yeah I'm 13 to. I'm totally obsessed with this one band and any word that is in their songs leads me to think about them. I'm particularly obsessed with one member over the rest and google for his pics all the time. Music is my life so I'm always thinking of them but my friends don't really like my kind of music so I can't talk to them about it. So what I did was sat in my room and (I know this sounds weird) practiced things to talk about that wouldn't lead to a topic about the band.

I was ALWAYS like that when I was your age!!!! I didn't get over it til I got a boyfriend!! I was totally obsessed with Gavin Rossdale from Bush when I was like 11-13, then it was Daniel Johns from Silverchair(I was even in the fanclub.) til I got my boyfriend (still with him.). Now, I'm 22 and NOT ashamed to admit that I've been obsessed with Anthony Kiedis from Red Hot Chili Peppers for years now!! lol. I'm always gonna be a dork like that........ya just gotta accept it.

Im 38 and have the same problem. I even got to meet my famous person. It just made it worse. I listen to his music all day and night. I try to not talk about him to others since they will just think Im crazy., Then I tell myself , I am in love with this onstage personality and not the real person since we sure don't really know them. Its ok to have a day dream kind of thing but remember the chances of a forever after happy with that star is very highly unlikely.

Usually, you stalk them, you attempt to kill them or you actually do kill them, then you go to prison, then in 5 or 10 years, Larry King will ask you the inevitable in which you will answer "Oh Yeah, I'm over him now!"... lol good luck

Happy New Years!
