If it's spam from only a few sources try texting back "STOP" or "STOP ALL" . That is legally required to work for UK spammers and premium rate texters. If it's offensive messages contact your service provider, police, OFCOM and ICTIS. Otherwise you have to balance the hassle against the hassle of changing your number.

Some people are misleading you. It does not depend on the phone itself to block incoming text messages. You must call your cellular provider and ask them to manually turn of messaging for you. There is no other way. Most phones (at least that I know of) don't let you stop messaging directly from the phone. One simple call is all it takes!
Also, if you're getting a lot of messages from http://www.text4free.net (because they enable 100 messages to be sent at a time, which can get annoying) then all you have to do is contact them, and they'll put your number on their "do not send list."
I hope that helps.

If you have a real problem, it is best to start from square one. Get a new phone, and then be very careful who you give the number to. Just leave the old phone on and have a laugh at whoever is doing it. They have little brains and eventually give up. Have a great new year, and I hope it all works out ok!

if you have t-mobile you definitely can... i had to block a number due to some spam messages i was getting... i don't know what mobile carrier you have so i can't tell you if your carrier provides this option for you, but if its tmobile go to tmobile.com and under communication tool look to the right of the page for resourses... there will be a link to create spam filters for you phone... go to that and follow the onscreen instructions... good luck

okay... to the person who said "new phone", no way.
New SIM CARD.
They cost £5 in UK, not much.
It might be a hassle to give people a new phone number, but i would find it more of a hassle to have to contact the phone company etc (but that might be cos i dont understand how lol)
If its a person texting you, if you dont reply, sure they will eventually give up anyway...?
