Toronto is the most culturally diverse city in the world. So, whatever it is that you're looking for, you can probably find it here. (I'm a native.)
It's a city of about 3 million people, but if you count the Greater Toronto area, it's probably over 5 million.
There's a relatively good public transit system, and just about every type of non-primary business and work that exists, (Primary industries are mining, logging, fishing, farming, etc)
The housing prices can be a bit steep, but they come down somewhat in the GTA, and living outside Toronto proper but working in the city is not a problem.
Among other things, Toronto boasts three univiersities and a number of community colleges (about the equivalent of an American junion college) as well as various specialized schools. There is a large and well-developed public library system
Most medical care in Canada is free, although you'll have to pay for prescriptions, eyeglasses and some other stuff. But seeing a doctor, having most types of treatments, surgeries, ER visits, etc are covered. (You'll have to wait, I believe 30 days, for your OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance Program) card, so until then you still have to pay.) And Toronto's universities include a medical school. Many of the hospitals in the city are teaching hospitals associated with the University of Toronto Medical School.
What else? Well, try 5 daily newspapers and a seemingly endless number of radio and TV stations, so there's something for everyone. Lots of live theatres and concert halls. Professional sports teams (baseball, basketball, hockey, Canadian football, soccer, lacrosse ...) and all of the various types of clubs that you would see in any large city.
As in any other city, some areas are a bit safer than are others, but in particular the murder rate in Toronto is much lower than in similarly-sized cities in the US.
For a termperate climate, the weather in Toronto is somewhat mild. Think of Buffalo without the snow. Or of Chicago, but somewhat more moderate. Summers can have very hot and humid periods, and during these periods, you can almost drink the air. That's largely a result of being at the upper end of the Ohio RIver valley. We don't usually see a lot of snow in the winter, but when there is a lot, the city can be slow to remove it, particularly on side streets. There, now you also have a couple of down-sides.
I have a number of cousins who grew up in Rochester in upper NY state. THey would frequently visit while they were growing up, but most of them have since moved to other areas. One had moved to Phoenix and was quite settled there, but was planning to come for a visit. She told her co-workers that she was taking her vacation in Toronto, and they were all wowwed at the prospect, they had heard so many good things and thought is would be great place to go. She, of course, was kind of ho-hum about it, explaining that she just about grew up there and was simply going to visit family. But her co-workeres were sooooooooooo jealous.
Now that I've finished soundling like the Chamber of Commerce (called the Board of Trade)...

There is not one common industry that I know of. There are a lot of differernt ones. There is a big financial sector, retail, manufacturing, tourism, lots of different jobs. Go to www.workopolis.com, and that gives you all kinds of jobs that are available.
I love the culture of Toronto, there is every type of person living here. You can go to Chinatown, little India, Greek town, you name it, we have a neighbourhood and a dozen restaurants to represent it.
Ther theatre district is alive and well, as well as museums, and art galleries. For me, a night out, is a movie, or a club, and a nice dinner.

I adore Toronto. You name it and it's there! The second biggest gay/lesbian haven in Canada, second only to Vancouver. But it's expensive to live there, so get a decent paying job. Get on apt.com and check out some rents. type in www toronto.com and see what comes up.
