Firstly, why are you lonely? You don't have to go about advertising that you're lonely, and neither do you have to lie. Just make a concerted effort to show and interest in people who you feel you'd like to be friends with. Initiate, invite them to do stuff, etc. Friendship doesn't come easily, you have to make an effort sometimes.

No, lying isn't the answer. You have to find it within yourself to be yourself and extend the hand of friendship to others. No one likes to be lonely and you need to look into yourself and discover the reason behind your feelings of loneliness. Happiness comes from within, not from without ... you need to find what makes you happy and you will find that friends will appear when you are upbeat and enjoying life doing the things that you enjoy.
