Ask Teddy Kennedy why he opposed the windmill farm near his house because it would, "ruin his view"

Special interests. The oil companies provide millions of dollars to endorse members of both parties. The politicians who accept the money dishonor the American people because they would never approve a bill that would eliminate the need for crude oil, even though the technology is there. They may say the are for it but that is a tactic called stalling because they are slaves to the special interests they take money from.

First, it is not the Govt. that is paying for the oil.
It is the oil industry..
Just like Pepsi or Coke..

Second, Supply and Demand sets the price of the crude oil.

This is true with just about every porduct made
The more the demand, the higher the price.
When the industry finds another means of power. ie solar power.
and they can produce the solar power easier and cheaper, all cars will go to solar power.

Girls are the same... The more the demand, the higher the cost.
When there is no demand, the prices drop.

Oil is an enormous industry with a lot of infrastructure and foreign implications.

Developing new power sources means collapsing mammoth corporations with a lot of lobbying power, a difficult task, considering the selfishness of most executives and shareholders.

More concretely, it would take a lot of money to get hydrogen pumps installed everywhere for fuel cells, and nobody has fuel cell cars yet. You can't sell one with out the other, and it will take time, irrefutable incentive, and billions of dollars to set up such a system.

At present, gov. subsidies are paying for fuel cell trials with city buses and fuel stations (costing millions).

It is expensive to fund research? Everyone wants something different until it affects them or their neighborhood.
Wind power ruins the view of high classed neighbor hoods that have the money and power to keep windmills out?
Joe Kennedy wants to build a wind farm on Canada's most important bird watching areas but not in Massachusetts. MTA notes that, thanks in part to Ted Kennedy's objection to the Cape Wind project, wind-power projects all over the country have ground to a halt
Americans don't want hybrids as those cars aren't as fast as gas?

I agree-we have to do better. as to the Windfarm strory-Teddy Kennedy is arguing that a renewable energy project shouldn't be lumped in with a bill governing the Coast Guard. And frankly, lumping bills together got us the mess we're in. They take something important-body armor for the soldiers and lump a bunch of pork into it so the Republicans can say Dems voted against our soldiers. They need to quit passing bad bills & take the pork out of this. That's how they got funding for Northcom (google it, you won't believe it), their super highway plan from Mexico to Canada. It is absolutely amazing what is being done. Oil is the reason for Iraq, oil is the reason we ally with corrupt leaders/countries-like Saddam.

We absolutely must find another way-our country's future hangs in the balance

Because it isn't the governments job to find new to provide power. If people demand it the government does have ways to encourage business to develope alternative fuels.

Oil is about money and politics, and the government isn't filled with earth loving people so therefore they only care about politics and money. See...Saudia Arabia owns %12 of our economy, and I'm sure if America threatened to take that away from them, they would make sure we had consequences, not to mention many politicians get something off the American oil money...Bush is an oil man, why is he going to have cars running off water when his family comes from oil money...and those who don't come from oil money, get a nice check from those from the oil money to shut their mouthes and vote their way...until tree hugging hippies get into charge and we blow up the middle east we will always use oil

Because it's still cheaper to buy and use oil than to buy & use anything else.
