You should use rather stout whips. If possible, also sticks with wires attached to the ends, and if the wires are barbed it works better. Even attaching a razor blade or two to the wires is not a bad idea.
Also, get a few large mirrors so you can better view the injuries in real time. Better yet, use a camcorder. Good luck, and let us know how it goes.
