Thats kinda a stupid question. You wouldnt know if they where gay if they are closeted until you did something with them. I suppose you just have to test the waters with every man you are attracted to to see if they are gay. And why do they have to be closeted? Just because you are closeted doesnt mean your BF has to be. I know alot of male and female couples where one is closeted and the other isnt. If your partner respects you, they will keep your secret. Dont expect them to be closeted for you however, its unfair to them.
