How do you open a locked door?

1. Remove the hinge pins. Given the circumstances, it may be possible to remove the hinge pins of the door, and then remove the entire door from its frame. If the hinge pins are exposed on your side of the door, remove them with a pair of pliers or flat headed screwdriver.

2. Use a Sawzall reciprocating saw to cut the doorknob off.
. In doing so should sheer the 2 screws used to hold the doorknob's assembly together. With these 2 screws severed, you should be able to manually open the door by removing the doorknob piece by piece from the inside. Keep in mind this method will require you buy a new doorknob and install it (which isn't very hard) and will cost about 10-15 dollars at any hardware store.

3. Pick the lock. It is possible, but difficult if you have no experience. I recommend you leave this to a professional, which will probably cost more than 15 dollars (the cost to repair the knob, after you cut it off)

4. Kick the door down. It's really quite easy when done right. To kick a door down, you must deliver a solid force impact to the area of the door directly beside the lock device. Doing so will ensure all of the force is driven through the lock, and into the door frame which will likely break with ease (assuming its constructed out of wood)

5. It may be possible to force a flat headed screwdriver into the lock. To do so, insert the head of the screwdriver into the key opening and hammer it in. This will rupture the lock assembly and potentially allow you to open the door by turning the screwdriver.

Can you really pick a lock? Almost no one can, it is an urban legend that it is easy to do, even with the right tools. It is also an urban legend that a credit card will open most doors. Any lock in knob type door knob has a safety device built in specifically to stop this unless the lock is a piece of trash. If you can open it with a card, it is totally worthless trash.

If you can get to the other side of the lock, you can take it apart. You don't need to cut the knob off. Just take the thing apart with a screwdriver. You can then take it to a locksmith to have a key made.

By that time, you are inside, but you want the key to prevent this from happening again. Actually, it really doesn't cost that much to buy a new lock, even a good enough one. If it cost under $20 USD, it isn't worth putting it in.

If you can not get to the other side of the lock, it will be much harder. It would be inappropriate to give any more information here since it is not ethical to help someone open a lock unless they can prove that they own it.

You might be able to take the pins out the hinges and open the door. Again, you would have to be on the inside to do that. If you are authorized to get into the place, you can do one of these things fairly easily.

Forcing the door open, commonly called "jimmying" (don't know the proper spelling) it, will definately cause damage. The only question is how much damage.

Hinges, credit card, window, and lock popping with bobby pin or butter knife depending on style of lock all work, and well... if these fail stay calm... If you have to call a lock smith it will cost about the same as replacing a door... so I would say don't make your doggy wait any longer, stick a pry bar right where the latch is and pry that sucker open, it will rip som of the framing but you can have a handy friend or family member cut and patch a piece in there... Liquid nails works great too. Personally I'd cut the whole frame out before I would call a lock smith but I have all the tools handy to put it back in. Don't break your window! You will release Argon Gas, that is put in the window to insulate, much more expensive than replacing a door or patching the frame.

Not sure what type of door lock you have; but most can be replaced outright for much less than the cost of a locksmith visit. If you can get a pipe wrench or large pliers around the knob or lock, just twist it off. This should not damage your door or frame (unless you have really cheap doors). Once this is done, you can usually use a screwdriver to manipulate the lock open.

Many of us can open a locked door on old loose doors and jambs, newer homes are much more difficult - A locksmith will be a lot cheaper than the possible damage to your door.

If the door is not a deadbolt-try inserting a flat screwdriver between the door and the door frame-under the metal part that fits into the frame when the door is closed. Then, lift up and towards you. It should pop the door open without harming the door or lock.

I've had better success with using a butter knife instead of a credit card. I've learned this from snapping 2 of my credit cards in half trying to open doors.

Another method, I have not tried though, is called bump keying. This link will take you to a video that is very detailed on how to make and use a bump key. It looks very easy.

it depend up on the door lock system . you can used the calling card to open the locked door if their is some gape in the door corner .in place of calling card you can used cd also but it should be flexible mostly in the door of hk it works .

Call a locksmith. It's likely they'll take a while to arrive, and will charge through the nose, but the door will be open.

1st Try the credit card/CD trick mentioned by the others.
2nd Remove the hindge pins
3rd use an Electric drill and drill out the lock(run a 3/8" drill right into the hole that the key fits into.
