First: Does your mother have a valid reason for not letting you attend your local High School. Is the new school better? If not why go to the extra trouble and expense of attending a school 30 or 40 miles away?" Second: There are inventions now-a-days that allow you to tape/record TV programs (VCR/DVR) so that you can attend to other needs. Third: You could always do what other spoiled children do when they don't get their way....Call Child Protective Services because your mother expects to stay out in the cold for a half hour daily in winter. Either confront you mother with these ugly truths or "Suck it up".

As soon as the school is "open," insurance kicks in and students must be supervised. In order to do this, teachers and other personnel must be there. Teachers get paid for specific hours and kids coming before the approved time causes money and insurance problems. Without a specific opening time, students would keep getting there earlier and earlier. Teachers and administrators have less time to do their paperwork. While it's inconvenient, the best bet is to stay home a few extra minutes and get to school right on time, rather than early. Hope this teacher's advice helps!

It does sound remarkably unfair and a little degrading too if you ask me!
Has anyone thought to approach the head teacher in a mature fashion and bring your thoughts and opinions to his attention. Try to think of a way around it and offer it forward to him. For example. On very cold days, he could allow students into the main hall only.

The problem here is that I imagine the School is insured and it may be the case that the insurance only covers students for particular times of the day. So if, for example, they are insured from 7am - 4pm to cover students, if a student breaks their leg inside the premises out of those hours, then the School is not insured and the head has a law suit on his hands.

Standing back, I can see both sides to the arguement you put but unless someone says something to the head, you won't know why he does it, and he won't know how upset it makes you.
If you do decide to see him, make sure you take ideas and suggestions and also get some other students and parents involved and arrange a formal meeting with him.

Good luck..

Why do you get to school so long before the first bell? If you get there before school starts, it's pretty standard to have to wait outside since most schools don't let students into the building until just before classes start. When I was in middle school, my sister was in elementary school at the same school (it was k-12), but the elemetary school started half an hour later, so we'd get there at the same time and she'd have to wait outside until classes started. They didn't even open the playground for the lower school until the same time that the middle school students had to be inside. There's nothing "unfair" or inappropriate about it - that's just how schools do things.

No it's not fair. Did you know you don't get sick from being cold. You get sick from the germs inside the school.
Why are you all there so early? I would wait until later to show up when the teachers are on duty. Bundle up and drink a warm drink.

Wear warm clothes, try and get their later and just talk to your teacher. Its probably to do with some kind of insurance or legal stuff.

The problem is LEGAL COVERAGE. If they let you in, they have to have teachers covering it and most schools don't want to pay the teachers to do this and many teachers don't want to do it--especiallly not for free.

I had to walk barefoot in the snow 3 miles to get to school. It was uphill both directions.
