I played football last year on our Freshmen team in high school. It was fun, and pretty easy. Next year if I want to play (I'm not sure if I do) you have to go through a pretty grueling 2 week camp with the juniors and seniors and compete to find who will play varsity and jv. I thought hitting last year could be fun sometimes, but sometimes it could really be a *****, especially with 2 a days. But if I work out and wear pads, will the hitting really hurt?

Hitting during the game usually doesnt hurt as long as you dont get injured. If you play hard and hit (or get hit) a lot and do it with some intensity it really sucks when you wake up the next morning. Usually the day after games when I played getting out of bed in the morning (sometimes getting out in the morning didnt happen) really hurt but that is the price for some fun. it usually only lasted a day and it was back to work the day after to do it all again. Forget about the pain, you only have a few years to enjoy the game so strap up and go knock the snot out of someone (if you do it right you will knock the snot out of yourself on occasion too!!!)

Hitting isn't that bad. I don't know if this applies to everyone, but I was way more fearful of having to do grueling physical "conditioning", like running a bunch of sprints back-to-back, or doing weird strength-training drills.

Hitting really only sucks when you're going up against one of the crazy kids who for some sick reason, enjoy hitting people (and they might even be trying to injure you.) But there's usually only a few of them. And I know being a sophomore means you're among the weakest and smallest players, but when coaches want 2 guys to hit each other on purpose, they want them to be evenly matched. And by the way, that's really the only sucky time, when they just line you up to hit each other, and nothing else.

As far as wearing pads and working out -- yes, they help. You probably realize already from playing freshman-ball, that the more prepared you are physically for playing football, the easier it is. Most schools give you plenty of opportunities to weight-lift and do offseason conditioning.

I played football for about 6 years. The hitting didn't really hurt me because I was too into the game to realize the pain. The worst part is the day after, you are really sore and don't feel like moving. You just have to keep your mind focused on the game and the hitting will not phase you.

You need to be seen by a doctor asap! Head injuries might not exhibit symptoms immediately and no if there is a chance of concussion you probably should not be sleeping. I presume you have not had any major changes in blood pressure and are not having trouble with eye dilation. If not - that's a good thing, but do get checked out.

Hitting only hurts if your afraid of it.
If you convince yourself you're gonna hurt the other guy, you'll friggen love to hit. Plus, have faith in your shoulder pads, they're good to you.

I would know; I played Varsity at a Division 1 school this year against guys that have scholarships to Big Ten schools and Bobby Engram's 'roid child.

I weigh in at 145 lbs., and I could stop our 250 lb. fullback (who ran a 4.7 second 40-yd. dash) in his tracks. That didn't hurt because I hit him as hard as he hit me.

it hurts if you get hit a lot. I play Saftey and Linebacker for USC and I got ran over in high school when I played Linebacker. This season I played Linebacker and had 6 int 6 sacks.
