I am looking for intensive, everyday-full time boot camp type training not to exceed 3 months... is it possible to get into a good field in IT that has good income potential, and if so.. how and where do I get started?

IT isn't what it was 5-10 years ago. Back then, if you could spell "C" then you were a programmer. If you could spell "NT" you could be a system engineer too.

Personally, I am looking for a possible career change out of IT. I just don't see the employment opportunities in the future that we've had in the past. IT people are pure overhead, and therefore first to be fired. Most of the major projects have been done, and there is precious little new "revolutionary" technology (ie, Internet, migration to PCs, Win9x, etc) on the horizon.

I'd get a copy of Linux and learn Linux, top to bottom. Learn command line admin, how to edit conf files, etc. There is little doubt that the future of computing will be various flavors of "Unix" (Unix, Linux, BSD, ect). Learn the various shells (Borne, BASH, etc). Become a master of TCP/IP and the various web server technologies. You need to start on your own, then go to the intensive training event once you've got a firm handle on Linux.

Second, I'd get a CCNA (Cisco). That would get you an introduction to TCP/IP technology. Even if you don't configure Cisco stuff, you'll always use the stuff you learned in class.
