Rivers don't tend to be deep. Sediment and rock settle out and fill any deep spots whenever the water slows down.
Glen Canyon dam above the Colorado river has caused sandbars in the Grand Canyon to disappear. It also causes the river temperature to be much colder than normal. All of the sand that should be migrating downstream during floods stalls and settles out into the lake.
If a river is deep due to some earth shift, it won't stay that way long.

The Nile is the longest river, but in terms of amount of water flowing the Amazon River is the biggest.

Maybe Rio De La plata in between Argentina and Uruguay. It is the world's widest so It's possible it may be the deepest too.
