A knobby tire is used for off road riding. It is a very aggressive tred that gives great traction in dirt, sand, mud. It is not good for the street.

it's a type of tire used in motor cross because of the terrain, its tread out on the edge of the tire so when the bike is leaning over in a turn or uneven ground it grabs and does not slide out from under the rider.
