I had something simular, I was exactly 8wks along. It did not happen after sex, just after I used the bathroom I saw alot of blood and FREAKED! I went to the ER and was told that sometimes it is normal, that the uteris is expanding and could be tearing. They said that no matter what, if a miscarriage is happening, they cannot stop it. But I was fine, and still am! If it continues then I would worry and go in. Good luck, I know this doesn't help alot, but know you are not the only one. I hope all turns out well for you!

Your baby and you need and deserve a competent second opinion. This, of course, is extremely important and you should not have to guess whether or not you are still pregnant or if everything is okay. At only 5 weeks pregnant, I don't think the doctor will be able to hear the baby's heartbeat yet. That normally is possible around 8 weeks. However, you can definitely get an ultrasound to see what is going on internally. There are many symptoms of pregnancy and everyone experiences something different, but bleeding is just one thing you pay attention to and try to find the cause of no matter how far along you are. I am the mother of 3 beautiful children and I am 5 months pregnant with my fourth. I hope everything works out well for you, precious.

Did they have someone do a fetal heartbeat monitor on you, usually with the doppler thing, but i've also see one use a stethascope? If so, and the baby's heart was still beating it's more likely that you'll be ok than not. If they didn't, go back, go to a different one, or go to your doctor. Miscarriage is a possibility any time with in the first three months, reguardless of wether or not you've having problems.
When you're pregnant the whole area down there swells with blood. I think bleeding from sex is proably something more likely later in pregnancy than 5 weeks, but even something as simple as rough sex could create small tears the tissue of your cervex or vaginal lining. Does he have a pericing, by chance? If it was gushing and you're not miscarrying there could have been something involved during sex that cut or punctured you.
Call your doctor and try to get an appointment. In the mean time take it easy, try to relax and stay off your feet. If it was a threatend miscarriage you'll want to take as much stress from gravity off your cervex as possible. This early though, if it's going to happen there's not a lot they can do about it.

First: In reference to people wanting you to get the fetal heatbeat checked....babies don't have heartbeats until between 6-7 weeks of pregnancy so there isn't even a heart yet to check on if you are 5 weeks and change.
Second: You can have a miscarriage without falling down. (thank you Scarlet O'Hara)
Third: Lots of blood is bad. It's not necessarily a miscarriage...you could have torn something in your vagina during sex but I would call your OB and get a second opinion ASAP. Also, you should probably have your HCG levels checked to help determine the viability of your pregnancy and also no more sex until you see another doctor.
Good luck!

well first off no more sex untill you see your doctor and I would go as soon as they open tuesday! dont wait to make an appointment just go in as the doors open and tell them what happened they will work you in.
my sister in law did this and they put her on bed rest for the first half of her pregnacy. the baby is now 15 months old and just fine.
when I did this (yet not after sex) with my very first pregnacy the ER told me all was fine and sent me home 5 hours later I passed every thing by myself at home and was terrifyed. dont let this be you. if you are still bleeding RED blood i would go back to the ER or even go to a differnt ER (in a neiboring town) someone some where will have the sence to help you! ask for an ultrasound to see the baby.

Even though you have been to the ER I would call and get an appt with your regular Dr or your ob (is you have one yet). Bleeding doesn't always mean miscarriage, but it could mean something is wrong that needs to be looked at.
Best of luck to you and Happy new years!

I am not a doctor, but as a veteran of two previous miscarriages, I feel I must encourage you to get a second opinion and fast! Any gush of blood is dangerous to you and your baby. PLEASE see your Doc ASAP. If it happens again, it may be too late.

Your doc was a quack. He should have done an ultrasound to check for a heartbeat. If I were you, I would definitely push for answers ...
