You don't clean spam! You block it.....
Spam deposits all kind of spy-ware that other posters have suggested good ways to clean the stuff from spam.
Make sure your email has a spam blocker on board and prevent it in the first place. (e.g. Yahoo mail)
Don't open an email with a weird subject line.
If you do, report it as spam as soon as you open it without clicking on any links. It will be deleted with no ill effects.
Anything containing "free" or "make money from home" is almost always spam. Report it as spam.

Just anti-spam software alone will help noone. Protecting from spyware and protecting your IP address are needed first, and that means you'd want to purchase a firewall, antispyware, and antivirus software. Those suites will also contain spam protection.

Buying an internet security suite combines all three programs and lowers your price.

You want free? Try Zone Alarm (free version of firewall), Adaware (free spyware software), Avast (free antivirus software), and Mailwasher (the best free anti-spam software). This is a great free combo.

If you want to pay for the best Suite, I would purchase Zone Alarm Suite. Thats the best and easiest to use, in my opinion. It of course offers antispam.

Norton is huge and inneffective. Mcafee misses too much.

Just want the free antispam? Heres the ZDNET download link to the free version.

Be careful, the 1st several responders are offering software that doesnt even CONTAIN an antispam solution!

DO IT RIGHT. Get an internet security suite! Good luck!

Spybot and Adaware, hands down.

Download, update and run Spybot---http://www.safer-networking.org/ . Don't forget to use the Immunize feature.

Download, update and run Adaware---http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/products/select_your_product.php

Add spyware blaster and you are set.

Download SpywareBlaster---http://majorgeeks.com/download2859.html

SpywareBlaster doesn't scan and clean for spyware - it prevents it from ever being installed.

It's main features include:
- Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
- Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
- Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
