Ford was the house minority leader at the time. He then became Richard Nixon's vice president. When Nixon went down for the stuff during Watergate Ford became President. He was the only person to get promoted to vice president and then in turn president in our countries history. When he ran for reelection he had Bob Dole as a running mate and they lost. He was president for something like 961 days.

Ford became president because he was President Nixon's vice president. Nixon got impeached so that made Ford president. He never really wanted that position either. He appointed his vice president. So he is the ONLY president never voted into office.
