Home Schooling has changed a lot over recent years. It's not just mommy and her son anymore. Now you can hook up with other people who home school their children and go on field trips together. An advantage would be that you know exactly what and if your children are learning. Many times home schooling is advantageous if your child may need special attention e.g. dyslexia or something else that may require one on one attention. If you interact with other people who are home schooled then social interaction would not be a problem. Socialization is very important to a child. One disadvantage may be the costs of curriculum materials and books, but if you hook up with other people that homeschool their children you may be able to borrow materials from them.

Advantages are you get to control the atmosphere as well as the material learned, to a point.
Cons are you have to be extremely structured to make home schooling work, the child/children loose the interaction they would get at school - even though I don't always like all of my sons friends, I think he would miss out on a part of being a kid not to mention interatction helps develop areas of our character.
I researched this a few years back and after weighing the pros and cons, we decided to move to get our son into an amazingly good school district that he is happy with - and so are we

Living in Alaska> I know a lot of people who are home schooled. If you are the right person to school them, I think it's good. If you don't have a good education, you can lead them down a rocky path. The next thing is> Young people need to be with people their own age., for social reasons. Like the Riddel boy who killed the girlfriends mother on Prince of Wales Island. He is intelegent but has no social skills. She was most likley the only girl he ever had relaions with.

Advantages: Your kids get a great education, because you pick what they learn. You can focus with them one on one. You can't get that in any public or private school. You pick the ciriculum. and the method in which you teach it.
Disadvantages: Your kids lose out on some of the peer to peer relationships. Although, there are home school groups that you can join with kids that are your kids ages. You also lose out on the time that you would normally have to run errands and/or have personal time.

No real interaction with other people or the same learning like if the class is bad they get in trouble therefore no disipline. No drama or peer pressure meaning that they won't learn how to act around people!
